I mentioned this website when I reported from the World Federation in Canada but felt I really should review it at some point. For anyone who has not looked it really is worthwhile, if a little depressing at times. Think of it as cathartic (a chance to let out a scream that releases pent up emotions) and you'll be okay.
This is the group that organised a demo for Bill Clinton during his visit to Glasgow reported here. He was back for the Labour Party bash in Manchester. And so were the campaigners asking him to talk a bit about HIV in Arkansas prisons as well as HIV in Africa.
The home page comes with red and white letters with the echo of those haemophilia logos where the red and white bodies lean against each other. Inside is a host of information, a list of campaign aims, links to press coverage of articles about haemophilia and infections of the blood supply, a petition that you can send to your PM or MP. There is also a handy link to a site that tells you the name of your MP. I won’t go through these as you can do this for yourself just as easily.
The stunning feature of the whole site though is the timeline. This is an extra-ordinary achievement to bring together so much information about the history of blood product provision in the UK along with some information about events in other countries. The time and effort that must have gone into collecting the information is phenomenal before we even get to the simple scrolling layout. You could spend days reading what is there and they are still adding to it!!!
Add to this the evidence they have available for download and this really is the most comprehensive collection of information about haemophilia treatment being infected with pathogens anywhere on the web.
The only thing missing is the strains of a synthesiser going dee-doo-doo and Mark Almonds voice beginning the line “Sometimes I feel I’ve got to run away”. Some websites have sound can this be done webmaster???
